Barry Manilow trades Australian tour dates in for Sin City

After massive flooding struck Australia last month, Barry Manilow was forced to cancel his current down under tour dates. But the good news–for American fans at least–is that he has added more tour dates for Las Vegas.

The new Sin City dates put Manilow at the Paris Las Vegas (where the singer currently has a residency) between April 8-10 and April 15-17. Prior to that, Manilow is also playing a gig on March 22 at the Royce Hall in Los Angeles.

Barry Manilow in residence at Paris Las Vegas

Barry Manilow has been quite busy this year.  It all began in March when Manilow became the resident performing act at Paris in Las Vegas with the signing of a two-year contract.

The contract allows Manilow 78 shows for each year of the contract.  His performances at the Paris Theatre are produced by AEG Live in conjunction with Paris Las Vegas.  Manilow shares his enthusiasm, “The audience in Vegas is always energized and electric, so I know that the Paris Las Vegas is going to be a special run.  I’m planning something new for this performance; definitely not to be missed.” ( Read More…)

Manilow the Object of a Romantic Comedy?

So the word on the Hollywood streets, as reported in Variety magazine, is that a new movie may be in the works that involves a roadtrip to see Vegas to see a Barry Manilow show. Sound familiar?

Apparently R.E.M.’s Michael Stipe has a production company, Single Cell Pictures, that is teaming up with Tom Hank’s production company, Playtone, to work on a romantic comedy where fans with various plotlines from different parts of the country roadtrip to converge on Las Vegas to see Manilow play at Mandalay Bay. Think “Detroit Rock City” meets “Copacabana!”

The film is as yet untitled but is said to feature Manilow songs throughout, and there is a rumor of Barry perhaps performing a song or 2. Manilow is expected to collaborate on the project.  Stay tuned!

Manilow Remembers Michael Jackson

Upon learning of Michael Jackson’s death of an apparent heart attack on June 25, 2009, Barry Manilow posted his respects on his official website, manilow.com.

He remarked, “He was one of the most gifted and original talents the world has ever known. He inspired a generation of young people and amazed the rest of the world. There has never been anyone like him. There will never be another Michael Jackson.”

At Jackson’s request, Manilow performed a medley of MJ hit songs at the 1984 American Music Awards where Jackson was honored.  Such anecdotes are pouring in from artists of all backgrounds, proving once again the cross-generational impact Michael Jackson had on music.
